I hang scratch off maps and 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles with the world’s most beautiful places and buildings. To be fair, my students probably think that I’m secretly working for a travel agency. Cause I sometimes resemble a broken cuckoo clock going “If you’re learning a language… TRAVEL! TRAVEL! TRAVEL!” After returning from one country, I immediately start searching for tickets to a different one… and it just so happened that the next spot on the map was Sweden.

I travelled with one of my best friends, Alina. We woke up at 3 am, took off at 6 and landed in Sweden at 6:15 (with a one hour time difference). The very second that we reached Skavsta airport, we both felt this huge craving for coffee. The coffee cost 60 Swedish crowns (6 euros), so instead of a cup of hot latte we had a sudden realization that it’s also possible to start your day without it. Our Airbnb was 9 km from Stockholm city centre and we did not want to waste any time, so we just told our landlord HI, dropped our bags on the floor and headed towards the city. We only had 3 days, so every second seemed precious.

The temperature was never below 26 and the views were never below expectations. We constantly stopped to breathe in the overwhelming emotions and images, which had so perfectly eliminated all thoughts of monotony and daily anxieties. I mean… If the tickets to Stockholm were meant to be a terminated escape plan, then boy did we feel silly not to have done it before. This city got as so mesmerized that we could not stop laughing and smiling, as if we had revealed a secret which was still hidden from everyone else.

We’d walked 100 kilometres in three days. We were now able to find our way home or visit some famous sights merely looking at the bridges and buildings, which were the arrows of our mental compass. We were gps-free and we didn’t even need any help from the local residents (who, by the way, all spoke perfect English!). We spent the half of the last day in Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum and the Scandinavian cousin of our Lithuanian Rumšiškės, with environment so beyond perfectly adopted for elks, wolves, bears and other animals that it’s no less than admirable. We visited the 17th century ship in Vasa museum, accidentally saw the changing of the guards by the palace and got off at a wrong metro stop…15 times or so… to enjoy the underground art installations (what an absolutely impressive metro system it is!).

Three days went by so fast and the number of kilometres as well as the emotions were so above expected that we felt as if we’d been living here for a couple of months already, whereas at the same time… we only unpacked our bags a couple of days ago and we were already packing them again…

We did the only thing we could: came back, breathed in, breathed out, and started planning a new journey.

Esu viena iš tų žmonių, pas kuriuos namuose ant sienų kabo ne paveikslai, o nutrinami šalių žemėlapiai ir tūkstantinės gražiausių pasaulio vietų […]

[11

post-1395","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-teacher-on-the-move
["GET
